The quest for an NEC championship began with season-opening victories for both lacrosse programs. The men defeated Mount St. Mary’s 14-12. The women, ranked No. 1 in the NEC preseason poll, beat George Mason 9-6 and are seeking a third straight NEC title.

Women’s Hockey Wins Four Straight, Eyes NEWHA Tournament Run

Women’s hockey earned its fourth consecutive victory with a pair of overtime wins against Saint Anselm. The Sharks host Sacred Heart on Saturday at 7 p.m. for the annual White out the ‘Well game. The opening round of the NEWHA Tournament begins Feb. 27.

Men’s Golf Picked No. 1 in NEC Preseason Poll

Men’s golf enters the 2026 season ranked No. 1 in the NEC preseason poll. Last season, the Sharks swept the conference’s major postseason awards. Arjun Singh Bhatia was named Golfer of the Year and Tom Winn earned Rookie of the Year honors.

Basketball Teams Set New Standard, Earn NEC Berths

Men’s basketball secured its 17th win with a victory over Wagner on Feb. 12. The Sharks sit in first place in the NEC and have clinched a conference tournament berth. Women’s basketball won its fifth straight game and 15th overall with a victory over New Haven, clinching a spot in the NEC Tournament.

Alan Hahn ’93 to Host, Join Hall of Fame Centennial Class

National sports journalist alumnus Alan Hahn ’93 will host and be inducted into the Athletics Hall of Fame Centennial Class on March 1 at 11 a.m. at Brooklyn Paramount. A former men’s basketball student-athlete, Hahn has covered the Knicks and Islanders for Newsday, has served as an analyst for MSG Networks since 2010, and has hosted ESPN Radio since 2012. Federal Reserve Director Talks Economic Outlook

Kartik B. Athreya, Director of Research and Head of Research and the Statistics Group of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, visited Long Island University to discuss the current outlook for the U.S. economy. Athreya is the author of Big Ideas in Macroeconomics (2013, MIT Press), and his writing has been published in a variety of academic journals. 

Oxford Scholar Awarded Prestigious NIH Fellowship

Alumnus Ryan Herold ’18 was awarded the Ruth L. Kirschstein Individual Postdoctoral Fellowship by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The competitive award is given to applicants who have the potential to become productive and successful independent cancer research investigators. Herold was awarded Oxford University’s prestigious Clarendon Scholarship in 2019 after earning his B.S. in Molecular Biology at Long Island University.

National Foundation Funds Vet Professor’s New Research

Dr. Ching Yang, Assistant Professor of Anatomic Pathology, has received funding from the AKC Canine Health Foundation and the Westie Foundation of America to investigate how bacterial toxins contribute to canine pyoderma. The research has the potential to improve diagnostic and treatment strategies for skin infections in dogs.

Women’s Gymnastics Defeats George Washington

Women’s gymnastics defeated George Washington University, the defending East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) champion and the conference’s top-ranked team at the start of the season. The Sharks posted a team-best vault score of 48.700, contributing to the 192.375 to 191.000 final.

New York Knicks Hall of Famers Visit Roc Nation School

New York Knicks legends Walt Frazier, Bernard King, Stephon Marbury, Allan Houston, and Rod Strickland, head coach of the men’s basketball team, visited campus for a panel discussion hosted by ESPN and Knicks broadcaster Monica McNutt. The constellation of star guards recalled memorable moments during their careers with one of the most storied franchises in professional sports.
