Dr. William Brennan ’02 was selected as the superintendent of the Massapequa School District after 22 years of diverse experience in education. Dr. Brennan previously served as an assistant superintendent in the Farmingdale School District and has been a science teacher, professional developer, athletic coach, administrator and adjunct professor throughout his career.
Tveter Named Senior Advisor to Global Investment Group
Eric Tveter ’80 was named Senior Advisor for Media and Communications of CEA Group, an international investment banking service provider for the media and technology sectors. During his 40-year career, Tveter has served as an executive in several multibillion-dollar revenue companies, including Liberty Global, Warner, Comcast and Cablevision.

Joseph Farber ’65 was appointed a partner of Gerstman Schwartz LLP, a D.C. and New York-based government relations and litigation law firm. Farber previously served as the managing attorney for Queens Legal Services Corp.; a Trustee of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in the Eastern District of NewYork; president of the Queens Chamber of Commerce; and district governor of Lions Clubs International.
Artist Shines Light on African-American History in Exhibit
Barbara Gothard ’71 has a new exhibit in the San Bernardino County Museum titled Contradictions – Bringing the Past Forward, a research-based multimedia installation that examines the plight of early 20th-century African American homesteaders in the Mojave Desert.
Sharks Win NEC Top Honors for Scholar Athletic Awards
LIU once again topped the Northeast Conference’s 2021 Fall Scholar-Athlete Awards with two honorees: Men’s soccer’s Demetri Skoumbakis, who was also named the NEC Goalie of the Year in 2021, and volleyball’s Jovana Stekovic, a three-time NEC Player of the Week and repeat first team All-NEC selection. In total, 63 Sharks earned the highest honor of the Commissioner’s Honor Roll and 177 athletes were named to the Academic Honor Roll.
Professor’s NFT Selected for Charity Auction
Media Arts Department professor Marjan Moghaddam was selected as one of the top 12 female NFT artists worldwide to participate in a historic carbon net-negative NFT charity auction to benefit women impacted by climate change in Africa. The auction was launched by World of Women and non-profit Code Green in collaboration with the World Economic Forum to help fund a natural Great Green Wall across the width of Africa.
LIU Ranked in Top 10 Research Universities for High-Earning Women
Long Island University is ranked as a top-10 R2-classified research university in the northeast producing the most high-earning women under 40, according to Steppingblocks. The University is recognized for its contributions to closing the gender pay gap by graduating women into pharmacy and pharmacology, nursing and health care careers with an average salary of $128,266.
Honors Alumna Wins Highly Competitive Federal Grant
Mona El Gendi ’21 received the National Institute of Health’s Postbaccalaureate Research Training Award, which provides funding and research support for recent graduates who plan to pursue an MD or PhD. El Gendi graduated early from the Honors College, was the winner of the University’s 2021 Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship, and served as president of the Alpha Chi Honors Society.
Experienced Educator Named State’s Deputy Commissioner
Angelique Johnson-Dingle ’03, ’05 was appointed as the New York State Education Department’s deputy commissioner for p-12 instructional support. Johnson-Dingle currently serves as the District Superintendent of the Western Suffolk BOCES and serves as Co-Chair of the Suffolk County Superintendent’s Association’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusivity Committee.
Sharks Win Five Gold Medals at NEC Championships
Men’s indoor track and field athletes shined at the 2022 Northeast Conference Championship meet. Freshman Elyas Ayyoub was named the meet’s Most Valuable Performer after winning gold in the 3,000-meter and 5,000-meter runs; sophomore Momodou Sey won gold in the 60-meter dash; senior Kimorie Shearman won the 200-meter dash; and junior Lucas Fernandez won the 800-meter run.
