Students at the School of Business are learning from one of the highest achieving alumni in the nearly 100-year history of LIU: Ray Dalio, founder and co-chief investment officer of the world’s largest hedge fund, Bridgewater Associates. Principles for Life, Work, and Impact, a course inspired by Dalio’s bestselling book Principles, teaches the transformative power of principles-based decision making by giving students hands-on experience through real-world projects. Dalio, Class of 1971, was ranked on the Time 100 List of Most Influential People in the World.

Alumnus Howard Murad, Class of 1962, an internationally renowned dermatologist, pharmacist, clinical professor, and founder of Murad Skincare Inc., will be establishing a new wellness initiative. The Howard Murad Inclusive Wellness Program seeks to integrate cosmetic science, beauty, and wellness by expanding the role of pharmacists in delivering more comprehensive health and beauty care to their patients.

Arash Dabestani, Dean of the Arnold & Marie Schwartz College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences co-authored groundbreaking new research published in the Journal of Investigative Dermatology. The study, conducted alongside faculty atYale University, found a substantial portion of topical benzoyl peroxide (BPO) acne and rosacea treatments currently on the market are unstable and contain unacceptably high levels of benzene, a known human carcinogen.

Long Island University won three top honors in the annual Bethpage Best of Long Island Contest. LIU was recognized as Best College or University, the Sharks earned Best College Sports Program and President Cline was named Best College President. This is the fifth year in a row LIU has earned recognition in Best of Long Island, the highest number of consecutive years since the contest began.

Long Island University has been selected to host and test the fourth generation of the Living Heart Platform, an FDA-approved project aimed at developing and validating highly accurate personalized digital human heart models. The translational research initiative will unite leading researchers, educators, medical device developers, regulatory agencies, and practicing cardiologists on a shared mission to revolutionize cardiovascular science.

Business Insider cited the Bachelor of Science in Artificial Intelligence in an article featuring AI programs at universities across the U.S., including Johns Hopkins, Stanford, Carnegie Mellon, Penn, USC, UCLA, Georgia Tech, Columbia and Cornell. Launched in 2019, the program was among the first of its kind and LIU remains one of just 11 universities nationwide to offer an undergraduate degree in Artificial Intelligence.

International leaders in the battle against congenital heart disease participated in a panel discussion on the Brooklyn campus about innovative new technology currently being developed through the LIU-Dassault Systèmes partnership. Vice President for Research Mohammed Cherkaoui led the discussion alongside Ignacio Lugones, Head of the Cardiac Surgery Unit at Buenos Aires Hospital, and Steve Levine, founder of the Living Heart Project and Chief Strategy Officer at Dassault Systèmes. 

Men’s Basketball Head Coach Rod Strickland was honored during New York Knicks Homecoming Weekend, as one of more than forty alumni celebrated for their accomplishments with the iconic franchise. During his 17-year NBA career, Strickland earned NBA All-Rookie Second Team honors with the Knicks during the 1988-89 season.
