World-Renowned Advocate Honored for Trailblazing Career

EP Magazine, an award-winning publication serving the special needs community, recognized Judith Heumann ’69 as one of its 50 Advocate Heroes in celebration of its 50th anniversary. Heumann is a lifelong advocate for the rights of people with disabilities and was instrumental in the development of legislation such as the Individuals with Education Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Rehabilitation Act. She was appointed by president Barack Obama as the first Special Advisor for International Disability Rights at the U.S. Department of State, where she served from 2010 to 2017.
