Cassai joins HSS from New York-Presbyterian, one of the world’s largest hospital systems, where she served as Senior Vice President of Perioperative Services. Students Visit United Nations Secretariat in Vienna
Students engaged in a guided tour of the United Nations Secretariat in Vienna, which was part of the global studies module at the Diplomatic Academy. The students had access to the Vienna headquarters and observed its daily operations. The UN secretariat is located in 4 cities: Vienna, Nairobi, New York, and Geneva.
Women’s Golf Sets New Record at NEC Championship
The LIU women’s golf team set a new program record at the NEC Championship. The Sharks finished with a team score of 288 in round 1, besting the prior record of 297 by nine strokes. For the tournament, LIU finished T3 with a total score of 914. Three Sharks finished in the top 18, with two posting top ten finishes.
Men’s and Women’s Lacrosse Clinch Victories
The women’s lacrosse team clinched a share of the NEC regular season title for the first time in program history after its 10-3 win against FDU. The men’s lacrosse team heads into the MAAC Tournament after a 10-9 overtime win against Quinnipiac to wrap up its regular season.
Celebrating the 75 Years of the George Polk Awards in Journalism
The 75th Anniversary of the George Polk Awards Ceremony celebrated the 2024 Polk Award winners and honored an additional sixteen outstanding journalists whose careers reflect a commitment to deep investigative reporting, as “George Polk laureates.” Established in 1949 by LIU to commemorate George Polk, a CBS correspondent murdered in 1948 while covering the Greek civil war, the awards honor special achievement in journalism. Student Named Fulbright Scholar to South Korea
Senior Innocense Gumbs was named a recipient of a Fulbright Award to South Korea for the 2024-2025 school year. Gumbs is studying Elementary Education and currently serving as a Teaching Assistant in the Gifted Program with Dr. Lynne Manouvrier, Director for the Center for Gifted Youth.
Sharks Win NEC Championship, Advance to NCAA Tournament
The women’s tennis clinched its second consecutive NEC Championship on Sunday with a 4-2 victory over FDU at the Mercer County Tennis Center. LIUfinished the tournament with a 3-0 record, securing wins against Stonehill 4-0 and Saint Francis 4-3 before clinching the title against FDU in the finals, 4-2. The Sharks will next compete in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.
Global Students Present Research at National Conference
Students in the Global Studies program traveled to Long Beach, California to present their research at the National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR). These seniors in the Global Studies program spent the spring semester writing their theses based on the original research they conducted in their travels aboard, before traveling to NCUR to showcase their findings.
Brooklyn Campus Hosts NYC Schools Tech Summit
Over 600 educators from across New York City visited the Brooklyn campus for the eleventh annual New York City Schools Tech Summit. The event focused on advancing digital learning and featured remarks from NYC Public Schools Chancellor David C. Banks. Representatives from Google, Microsoft, Canva, Adobe, LEGO Education, Dell, Epson, and Promethean participated in the vendor meet-and-greet.
JPMorgan Chase Partnership Establishes Financial Health Course
JPMorgan Chase has partnered with the Roc Nation School of Music, Sports & Entertainment to provide tuition support and establish the School’s first-ever financial health course. The innovative partnership provides 15 full-tuition scholarships and helps students establish strong money management skills through the MoneySmart Financial Coaching Program developed by the National Council for Workforce Education.
