James Shiles ’97 was named the senior vice president and chief production officer of capital markets for Walker & Dunlop, one of America’s largest providers of capital for commercial real estate. Shiles’ extensive background in finance includes executive leadership roles at Morgan Stanley and Ernst & Young.

Junior Defender Henry Haferkorn was named among the best soccer players in the country on the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Players to Watch list. The defending Northeast Conference champion Sharks were unanimously selected to repeat as champions by the league’s coaches in a preseason poll.

Lesly St. Louis ’10 joined the United Spinal Association as director of employment and DEI programs, where he assists people with spinal cord injuries or disabilities obtaining gainful employment. St. Louis was born with Spina Bifida and has dedicated his career to helping individuals with disabilities find jobs, previously serving as the diversity and inclusion program manager for Northwell Health.

Steve Bandrowczak ’89 was appointed as the CEO of Xerox after serving as the company’s president and chief operating officer since 2018. His wealth of experience in the technology industry includes high-ranking executive roles at DHL, Lenovo, Nortel, Avaya, and Hewlett-Packard.

Tilles Center for the Performing Arts announced its 2022-23 season featuring an extensive lineup of high-profile musicians, Broadway tours and dance performances. Upcoming shows include Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Daryl Hall, the New York Philharmonic String Quartet, Tony-Award winner Patti LuPone, renowned scientist Neil deGrasse Tyson, and legendary
entertainers Penn & Teller.

Sophomore offensive tackle Tedi Kushi, junior tight end Owen Glascoe, and sophomore running back Shemar Paul were honored by the Northeast Conference as members of the 2022 All-NEC Preseason Team. The Sharks begin their season September 1 under first-year head coach Ron Cooper, who joined LIU from top-ranked University of Alabama’s coaching staff.

Ami Patel ’05, ’16 was selected as the senior director of product development for Boyds, a global pharmaceutical consultancy service supporting the development of new, cutting-edge medicines. Patel previously led product development and alliance management efforts at VGYAAN Pharmaceuticals and was a senior operations manager at Absorption Systems.

The College of Veterinary Medicine is bringing its expertise to Nassau County elementary schools this summer as part of the federally funded “League of VetaHumanz” program. Students Rachel Pak and Christine Parascandola, as well as Professor Elena Contreras, deliver lessons on animal skeletons and skulls, the circulatory system, types of veterinarians, the cow’s digestive system, and viruses.

One of the University’s most decorated athletes, Brendon Rodney ’16, added to his track & field medal collection with a gold in the 4×100-meter relay for team Canada at the 2022 World Athletics Championships. Rodney holds multiple school records and is a two-time Olympic medalist, winning the bronze in the 4×100-meter relay for Canada in 2016 and 2020.

Shari Camhi ’90, superintendent of the Baldwin Union Free School District, was sworn in as the president of The School Superintendent’s Association. Camhi has led Baldwin Schools to earn national recognition for its innovative and rigorous academic programs, numerous partnerships, redesigned classrooms and 98% graduation rate.
