A generous gift from Purina Nestle PetCare Company has allowed for the establishment of the new Veterinary Nutrition Lab and Kitchen. The Center enables Long Island University’s College of Veterinary Medicine students to become familiar with therapeutic veterinary nutrition.

Successful September for Sharks Soccer Team

The defending Northeast Conference champion men’s soccer team is on a hot streak – winning 5 in a row! One notable win was against Hartford, with 5 goals from Robert Winkler, Matthias Heiland, Emil Jaaskelainen, Papa Sow and Michael Principe. Goalkeeper Julian Quaresima made his first career start in this game, producing a shutout.

Sharks Free Safety Wins Conference Awards

Sophomore Victor Nelson Junior’s three-interception game against fifth-ranked Villanova has landed the free safety a pair of honors. Nelson was named the Northeast Conference’s Defensive Player of the Week and was recognized as Stats Perform/FedEx Ground FCS National Defensive Player of the Week honorable mention.

LIU Grad Set to Lead as Dean of Libraries

Daisy Dominguez Singh ’05 was recently appointed dean of libraries at the University of Maine. Before that, she served as associate dean and chief librarian at the City College of New York Libraries.

Hockey Captain Continues Career with Islanders Affiliate

Zack Bross ’21 will continue his hockey career with the Worcester Railers, an affiliate of the New York Islanders this season. Bross was the Shark’s first captain in program history.

Author Alexis Mitchell Publishes her Second Book

Alexis Mitchell ’19, ’22 recently published her second book, The Attic. Mitchell is a self-published author and educator promoting the importance of education and diversity. Mitchell’s first book, I Write Therefore I Am: Exposed, was published in 2021. She is presently a high school English teacher, working with at-risk youths.

Pharmaceutical CFO Joins Cancer-Fighting Biotechnology Company

Biren Amin ’00 joins Pyramid Biosciences as its chief financial and strategy officer, where he will oversee the advancement and expansion of Pyramid’s company pipeline. Mr. Amin previously served as chief financial officer of Immuneering Corporation and spent two decades on Wall Street performing equity research covering biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies.

TV and Film Producer Signs MTV Studios Deal

Lashan Browning ’93 signed a deal with MTV Studios to lead an initiative to develop and grow content in cooperation with production companies owned by women and people of color. Browning has found previous success as executive producer of shows including VH1’s Love & Hip Hop Atlanta and Cartel Crew.
