LIU Hockey Alum Plays in NHL Rookie Faceoff

LIU men’s hockey alum Anthony Vincent, ’23 earned an invite to the NHL’s prestigious 2023 Rookie Faceoff exhibition series. Vincent played for the
San Jose Jose Sharks and faced off against other top NHL prospects from the Anaheim Ducks, Arizona Coyotes, Colorado Avalanche, Los Angeles Kings and Las Vegas Golden Knights.

The College of Veterinary Medicine participated in the annual adoption and animal welfare event at London Jewelers in Manhasset. Over 20 animals found new homes and event attendees learned about animal welfare and wellness in the community.

CNBC Highlights Pharmacy Professor’s AI Study

CNBC featured new research from LIU Pharmacy faculty members Dr. Sara Grossman, Joseph P. Nathan and Dr. Tina Zerilli. The team of researchers posed 39 medications-related questions to the free artificial intelligence tool “ChatGPT” and found that the chatbot only delivered 10 satisfactory responses. The study authors recommend users verify any drug-related responses from ChatGPT with trusted sources. Read the article here.

NBA Superstar Taps Roc Nation Professor to Lead Global Portfolio

Taso Pardalis, a sports law professor at the Roc Nation School, was named Executive Vice President and General Counsel of Ante, Inc., the global portfolio of Milwaukee Bucks star forward Giannis Antetokounmpo. Pardalis has been a partner at Pardalis and Nohavicka LLC in New York City for the past 15 years, where he managed the firm’s robust commercial and corporate practice, intellectual property practice and criminal defense practice.

Men’s Ice Hockey Battles Penn State, Boston College

The LIU Men’s Ice Hockey team is competing against the nation’s top teams this season. In October, the Sharks took the #16 ranked Penn State Nittany Lions and the #5 ranked Boston College Eagles to the final whistle. This weekend, the team travels to Hamford, Connecticut to face off against the Quinnipiac University Bobcats, currently ranked #5.

LIU Hosts Statewide Education Convention

Long Island University hosted over 150 local students and educators as part of the Take a Look at Teaching convention. Dr. Laura Seinfeld, Dean of the School of Education, joined several other New York educational leaders for the panel discussion on how to address shortages facing many school districts across the state.

LIU proudly introduced Stormie Charles as the head coach for the men’s and women’s cross-country teams. Charles arrives at LIU after a successful tenure as an assistant coach at Florida A&M University (FAMU), where her organizational prowess and tailored training programs stood out. During her time in Tallahassee, Charles offered guidance for student-athlete development, both on and off the course. She also ensured smooth team travel experiences, fostering a strong sense of camaraderie among the athletes. 

Roc Nation School Leads Panel with New York Giants, United Way

The Roc Nation School of Music, Sports & Entertainment coordinated a special Hispanic Heritage Month Career Panel with the United Way of New York City and the New York Giants. The panel featured New York Giants star linebacker Jonathan Casillas, DJ Camilo of Hot 97, and Esmeralda Baez, bestselling author and CEO of Elite Vision Media. Panelists spoke to local high school students about how to best pursue careers in the music, sports and entertainment industries.

International Pharmacy Association Awards LIU Faculty

The American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP) awarded two LIU Pharmacy faculty members at the organization’s annual conference. Dr. Douglas Jennings, Director of Assessment and Accreditation, won best paper and Dr. Azita H. Talasaz, Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice, won the PRN New Investigator Award. The international association is the professional home for clinical pharmacy practitioners, scientists, educators, administrators, students, residents, and fellows from more than 60 countries.
