Record Label President Speaks to Students at Roc Nation School

Jamie Krents, President of Verve, Verve Forecast, and Impulse! Records, spoke with students in the Artist Management course at the Roc Nation School of Music, Sports & Entertainment. Owned by Universal Music Group, Verve Records is home to the world’s largest jazz catalogue. In his two decades with the label, Krents has worked with Jon Batiste, Diana Krall, Samara Joy, Kurt Vile, Blake Mills, Brandee Younger and Arooj Aftab.

Mörtl, Schröfl Represent Austria at 2024 World Championship

Emma Mörtl and Lisa Schröfl of the women’s hockey team represented their home country of Austria during the 2024 Ice Hockey Women’s World Championship. Mörtl and Schröfl, both sophomores at LIU, led Team Austria to a fourth-place finish in the tournament.

Alum Joins American Library Association Executive Board

The American Library Association (ALA) Council announced the election of Dr. Corinthia Price ’11 to its Executive Board. Price currently serves as a member of the New York State Board of Regents Advisory Council on Libraries and the NewYork State Education Department Interdisciplinary Content Advisory Panel.

Coach of the Year Named Director of Golf

Ben Belfield, the reigning NEC Coach of the Year and men’s golf head coach, has been named the Director of Golf and will oversee both the men’s and women’s golf programs at LIU. During his five years at LIU, Belfield has led the Sharks to two team NEC Championships, one individual championship, and two NCAA Regional appearances.

District Superintendents Meet with Education Students

A panel of school district superintendents met with Dean’s Scholars from the College of Education, Information & Technology to share their insights from decades of professional experience in public education. Panel participants included: Dr. Timothy Eagen of Kings Park SD, Dr. Patrick Harrigan of Half Hollow Hills SD, Dr. Lorna Lewis of Malvern SD, Dr. Mary O’Meara of Plainview-Old Bethpage SD, and Dr. Whitney Smith, Director of Instructional Technology and Assessment of Mineola SD.

Veterinary Technology Students Earn Certifications

Students in the veterinary technology program earned professional certifications: RECOVER Certified Basic Life Support (BLS) Rescuer, RECOVER Certified Advanced Life Support (ALS) Rescuer and Fear Free Certified. The Reassessment Campaign on Veterinary Resuscitation (RECOVER) is a non-profit program within American College of Veterinary Emergency Critical Care (ACVECC) and Veterinary Emergency & Critical Care Society (VECCS).

Graduate Students Join International Honors Society

Graduate students from the Clinical Mental Health and School Counseling program were inducted into Chi Sigma Iota Counseling Academic & Professional Honor Society International (CSI). CSI is the premier international honor society of professional counseling and is dedicated to promoting excellence in the profession of counseling.

Students Land Prestigious Internships at UN

Charlotte Jones and Ellena Szentirmay were awarded the United Nation’s prestigious World Information Transfer Internship, a highly competitive program that admits 10-12 students from around the world each year. As part of the internship, students attend weekly meetings at the UN Headquarters in Manhattan and submit summaries that are reviewed and considered for publication in the World Ecology Report.

Women’s Lacrosse Wins Championship, Faces #5 Virginia in NCAA Tournament

The LIU women’s lacrosse team is heading to the NCAA Tournament after winning its first-ever NEC Championship with a 10-7 win against Sacred Heart. The Sharks play No. 5 Virginia in the first round of the NCAA women’s lacrosse championship.

Pharmacy Dean Joins Expert Panel at National Conference

Arash Dabestani, Dean of the Arnold & Marie Schwartz College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, joined healthcare executives at the IDN Summit & Reverse Expo in Orlando, Florida to participate in a national expert panel discussion. The panel explored a variety of topics, including pharmacy enrollment trends, cultural shifts in the profession, workforce projections by the U.S. Bureau of Labor, and the increasing role AI will play to improve public health outcomes.
