Fostering Social Change Through The Arts

1179

Over 700 high school students attended LIU’s seventh annual “Stage the Change” conference, held at Tilles Center. Students participated in theater, film and dance workshops conducted by prominent professional companies, including Dance Theater of Harlem, New York Film Academy and Tectonic Theater Project. The workshops focused on creating original works of theater, film and dance connected to themes such as racism, gun control, addiction, mental illness, LGBTQ issues and climate change. The event’s guest speaker was Gavin Creel, a Tony and Olivier Award winning actor. Creel has starred in Broadway productions of Hello Dolly, Book of Mormon and Thoroughly Modern Millie.
