Dr. Moya-Gayle, a renowned expert on Parkinson’s, will have her research published in the Journal of Medical Internet Research in 2023. The study focused on developing a tool to automatically measure speech intelligibility in people with Parkinson’s disease under real-life conditions. This study is a first step towards developing technologies that can facilitate speech monitoring in people with Parkinson’s from the comfort of their homes.

Successful September for Sharks Soccer Team
The defending Northeast Conference champion men’s soccer team is on a hot streak – winning 5 in a row! One notable win was against Hartford, with 5 goals from Robert Winkler, Matthias Heiland, Emil Jaaskelainen, Papa Sow and Michael Principe. Goalkeeper Julian Quaresima made his first career start in this game, producing a shutout.

TIER debuted its upcoming collection in a New York Fashion Week runway show held on LIU’s Brooklyn campus. Nigeria Ealey ’16 and his two partners launched TIER in 2014 while studying at Long Island University.
Sharks Free Safety Wins Conference Awards
Sophomore Victor Nelson Junior’s three-interception game against fifth-ranked Villanova has landed the free safety a pair of honors. Nelson was named the Northeast Conference’s Defensive Player of the Week and was recognized as Stats Perform/FedEx Ground FCS National Defensive Player of the Week honorable mention.
LIU Grad Set to Lead as Dean of Libraries
Daisy Dominguez Singh ’05 was recently appointed dean of libraries at the University of Maine. Before that, she served as associate dean and chief librarian at the City College of New York Libraries.
Hockey Captain Continues Career with Islanders Affiliate
Zack Bross ’21 will continue his hockey career with the Worcester Railers, an affiliate of the New York Islanders this season. Bross was the Shark’s first captain in program history.
Author Alexis Mitchell Publishes her Second Book
Alexis Mitchell ’19, ’22 recently published her second book, The Attic. Mitchell is a self-published author and educator promoting the importance of education and diversity. Mitchell’s first book, I Write Therefore I Am: Exposed, was published in 2021. She is presently a high school English teacher, working with at-risk youths.
