Students from the LIU-iQ Consulting Program Attended Prestigious Global Conference
In January, twelve students in the LIU-iQ Consulting Program went to Brazil to present the results of their fall semester projects and learn about the local business environment. Among other things, they visited Laticínios Sao Vicente in the historic Tiradentes and presented their strategy for expansion. Another highlight was the visit to Radio Itatiaia where students discussed their proposal for data monetization for the radio station.
International Nursing Society Recognizes LIU Students
LIU nursing students Kavya Antony and Claire Platt will be recognized at Sigma Nursing Honor Society’s 35th International Nursing Research Congress this summer. Antony will present her original research completed with nursing faculty Dr. Julie Elting Exploring Motives for Higher Education in Nursing (Descriptive Mixed Methods). Platt has been a research assistant with Dr. Benjamin A. Youdelman at Maimonides Medical Center and will present results from their study Enhanced Psychological Recovery after a Diagnosis of Aortic Disease: Routine Care.
Showcasing Student Entrepreneurship on Long Island
LIU hosted more than 3,000 students from approximately 100 high schools and middle schools across Long Island as part of the Virtual Enterprises Regional Business Plan Competition & Trade Show. The students represented their virtual businesses in one of the largest competitions that Virtual Enterprises International (VEI) holds. VEI is a national nonprofit educational program where students learn business by running a business in the classroom.
LIU Taps Premier League Star to Lead Women’s Rugby
Long Island University appointed championship rugby player Dee Nash as head coach of the Women’s Rugby team. Nash won a Women’s Premier League Rugby title while earning Back of the Year honors with the Colorado Gray Wolves in 2023. In addition to her playing experience, Nash has served as an assistant coach at Northeastern University and the University of Denver, as well as a staff member of USA Rugby.
National Organization Honors Dean of Global College
Dr. Ali Mazzara, dean of LIU Global and director of the Roosevelt School, was one of three women recognized by the National Organization of Italian American Women at the New York Region’s Epiphany Celebration. Dr. Mazzarra was recognized alongside Dr. Angela Christiano, a geneticist at Columbia University, and Lisa Veglia, Chief Executive Officer of QSAC (Quality Services for the Autism Community).
LIU Taps Olympian Dwight Smith as Fencing Head Coach
Olympic fencer Dwight Smith, a four-time USA National Team member, appointed as head Coach for the men’s and women’s fencing programs. In 2021, Smith was an Olympic alternate for USA Fencing, and traveled with the team as a training partner to Tokyo. He has medaled at multiple national championships, including a silver in 2015, and earned bronze at the 2019 North America Cup Olympic qualifier. Last year, Smith was selected national assistant coach of men’s epee for USA Fencing.

The White House Experience at The Roosevelt School added another media spotlight with Newsday’s “exploreLI” cover story. The feature article highlighted a recent visit from Uniondale and Oceanside high school students as they toured the replica of the White House Oval Office, Situation Room, and Press Briefing Room. The only White House replica in the Northeast, this experience has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Fox, NBC, American History TV, The New York Times, and other national media outlets.
LIU Wins Multiple Honors in Bethpage Best of Long Island
Long Island University won four top honors in the Bethpage Best of Long Island Contest. LIU was recognized as Best College or University, the Sharks earned Best College Sports Program, President Cline was named Best College President and Head Coach Ron Cooper won Best College or University Sports Coach in Football.
UN Ambassador for South Africa Visits Roosevelt School
LIU hosted the of South Africa’s UN ambassador Mathu Joyini and her colleagues for a special visit to the Roosevelt School. The distinguished guests visited to Sagamore Hill, the historic home of the President Theodore Roosevelt. In addition to Joyini, LIU students met with Dr. Shernice Soobramoney, Director of Global Engagement at North-West University in South Africa.
